How
WeatherWarn Works:
The core of the system is a professionally designed relational database system built on a SQL Server. The WeatherWarn service consists of an extremely fast bank of computers that monitor the National Weather Service NOAAPort Satellite Circuit, sorts the incoming bulletins based on the counties you select, and compares them to your account and the counties and cities in your area. It then makes a decision about that bulletin. If it is one for a county you selected, it then passes it onto you. The email list server then quickly sends out the bulletin. Once processed by our system, bulletins are time stamped and delivered appropriately. The whole process takes an average of half a minute, from the National Weather Service, to our TV station, and finally to your email account. Its FAST, because when severe weather threatens, every second counts!
For pagers, we do the same thing, except we condense the bulletins to fit into the 240 character limit of most pagers. Some PCS phones have a 150 character limit, but we put the most important information first, to ensure that even people looking at these limited displays will get useful information.

We can also use WeatherWarn to send out our own weather bulletins and messages direct from our weather center. We may choose to do so from time to time, when the NWS doesn't fully cover a situation, or when we feel that there is additional information that you must know. We may also send informational emails from time to time about special events related to our TV station.
To use WeatherWarn, all you need is an email account with a valid, working, address.
Or you can also use an alphanumeric pager or one of the newer digital PCS phones that can receive email pages via the Internet. Check with your pager/PCS provider to see if your pager or phone supports this.
